Always the last weekend in June. The show really begins about a week before as cars start showing up all over Northern Michigan. You might pull up to Leggs Inn in Cross Village and see two 1929 Duesenburgs sitting out front. I have. Come Friday though, the straits of Mackinac are the only place in a 5 mile radius of St. Ignace you won't find a Hot Rod, Muscle Car or Golden Oldie from eras long gone. Friday night at 6:00 the parade through downtown St. Ignace kicks off the official festivities. Then everyone cruises town, the bridge and eventually stops at Clyde's Drive Inn for a burger and a shake. Saturday they close main street entirely and the cars line the street for two or more miles as all of the manufacturers set up large tents and showcars in various parking lots and the street venders are all out hawking their wares. The highway south out of Mackinac on Sunday is the place to be to watch all the cars start their trek back home. While there be sure to check out the auto-less Mackinac Island for a glimpse into another bygone era.
I'll be there this year on the Midnight Phantom. It will be my first trip across the bridge on a motorcycle. I am looking forward to it. Hope to see all of you there.
