MJW #268 - Mystery 1
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:02:41 PM »
I have quite a number of cars in my archive without a name.
So, if anyone knows the story behind them it will be worth a point.

The first one I know nationality and engine and a few technical details.
A point if you can let me know which country it comes from and what engine powers it.
(I hope it's not a repost)

It's either a very small car or a very big steering wheel...!

The car is actually 3.0 metres long - small yes but road-going nevertheless.

I'm promoting this one for the Pros to mull over.
Don't forget that I don't have a name for it but I do have some technical details.

Guessing the country this one hails from is your first choice of solving it

More information on this unknown car -
Although it does have a make badge and the nationality and engine make is known, who built it isn't.

Can anyone solve this mystery?

Although the extra information appeared in a German magazine the car is not from that country.

I thought so, RHD would have been very unusual.

It looks a little like a British made Russon that I have a picture of.

It does have a touch of the Russon about it.
Not from the UK though.

I read that letter in a German magazine years ago, but didn't bookmark it. Was it Czechoslovakian with a Jawa engine?

It is Czechoslovakian, however the engine is not Jawa but from another country.
I'll LOCK it for you until your next reply to guess the engine make.
Nationality and engine make was all I required for the point.

DKW is correct.
So another point for you for guessing nationality and engine make.
I'll place this puzzle in the BH in case someone out there has more information.

In the meantime - a letter regarding the car without edits

Would one of our German speakers care to give us a translation, please.

Unknown Czech

For quite a while I've been owning the pictured car, which comes from Czechoslovakia. I'm looking for information about it. The car carries Skoda emblems.Further characteristics: open two-seater, RHD, accelerator pedal in the middle, three-speed gearbox with reverse gear, propeller shaft / differential, frame partially made of wood, metal body with wooden reinforcements, fan-cooled DKW single cylinder 462 cc engine from the 30's, length 3000 mm, width 1300 mm, height 730 mm (with windscreen 1030 mm).
Many thanks in advance, I'm very curious.

I'm not a native speaker of German, but I can tell you that it says "Unkown Czech" and describes a car as 2-seater, right-hand drive, center gas pedal, 3 speeds plus reverse, wooden frame parts, air-cooled 462 cc DKW single-cylinder motor and the dimensions.  I'm sure one of those who've spoken German later than my 1971 version (last time I was there) can get the rest.

I have no idea but if you have some proof - a photo, article, etc. that could help to put this one to rest.....
