grob november 2012 mystery (01)
« on: November 10, 2012, 03:13:25 AM »
I only have rudimentary information about this car: (Bugatti 2,3 liter chassis + engine, and that it has appeared at early postwar races in Germany, e.g. at the Nürburgring)

Proove your guesses and this could be your point.

Don´t ask for help from my side, because I simply will not know anymore facts...

I've see this somewhere.  Is it a German-built Lancia-based car

The bodywork most probably is german, but the chassis and engine is not from a Lancia.

If not Lancia, is it Alfa Romeo based?

The chassis and engine are neither italian nor german.

At the risk of opening myself up for a sniper attack, I'll ask if it's a Type 57 with streamlined bodywork.

Heinrich Herbster drove a Bugatti 35 B after the war at various races. The car's engine was later on used for the first Veritas monoposto, but soon to be replaced there. The engine was sold to Egon Brütsch.

It's a Bugatti with streamline body built for German Bugatti enthusiast Paul Bittorf. I think the picture is taken 1947 to 49

I would love to know if you are right.

Do you have any proof?

(no links here, please, maybe via personal message)

As I do not know myself we need to verify your guess.

The pic was taken at the Nürburgring and is from the Book "german racing Cars and drivers" by Molter/Wörner published by Floyd Clymer. Caption says "A 1930 Bugatti sportscar with a new light metal body on the Nürburgring". Bittorf had entered a Bugatti for the 1949 Preis des Nürburgrings. I think the man leaning on the car is Teddy Vorster, also racing at this event. So it is a conclusion.

I know as the puzzle pic stems from this very book  ;)

My problem is that there is no date at the photo and there were many more Bugattis and Bugatti specials racing in the arly postwar years.

I guess we need another photo as proof.

Sorry, but  this is not a point so far.

As soon as anybody can proof it was the Bittorf Bugatti, you will get the point...
