Mercedes 28/95 with phaeton bodywork by Reutter for ???
« on: May 11, 2012, 12:59:48 PM »
Who knows this car?

One point for the correct basis.

A second point for the correct coachbuilding company

I have not moved this to the "solved"-section, because I will award another point to anybody who can tell me the correct customer ( I don´t know him/her)

This car has me thrown, Mercedes-Knight 16/40 hp? It doesn't look like one of the larger Mercedes of the period.

Well, the engine is larger than a 4-in-line, at least.

So are the numbers of its designation, of course... ;)

ok, I can see it's chain drive, so a 25/65 would match up, and the bonnet is the same, but that's still a 4 cylinder.

Would I be right in assuming it's a pre WW1 car, that has been rebodied in the 20? is there a limit to how many questions I can ask?

Just ask... :D

Well, my source tells it has an even bigger 6-in-line-engine than that of your last guess.

So carry on and you´ll solve it completely I´m sure.

Well, there are only a couple of possible models left, a 1910-12 28/50 PS? but that body, to me, looks like it was made in the early 20's.

Your point.

Another point for anybody who may be able to tell me the correct coachbuilding company that manufactured this sophisticated aluminium body for an exotic customer...

Well, let's see here.  The closest coachbuilder to Sindelfingen seems to be Wendler in Reutlingen, 42 km away.  I found a couple more in the neighborhood, but I'll restrain myself and do one at a time.  :)
