grob_2011_08_13 (3) VOSS MYSTERY
« on: August 13, 2011, 04:33:25 AM »
Who knows this car?

I do only have rudimentary information about it, not even a real name, so this may even be a repost...
So I´ll start at expert´s level with that puzzle.

Maybe one of our autopuzzlers will know more?

 ???
The front looks like a Lotus Elan +2; the cockpit with its flying buttresses like a Jaguar XJS; the tail like the AC Cobra that was tested on the M1.  So is it a Japanese home-built from about 1969?

As I said - I do not know too much about this car.
I hope someone will identify it and can prove its name.

To end the country discussion:

it is german and VW Beetle based.

Are you sure it isn't Porsche based? The wheels and the windscreen look very much like Porsche 356.

I´m not really sure.

I´ve found those two photos in a book of a german glass fibre producing company of the mid 1960´s.

In those days the earlier 356´s wre relatively affordable, so it could be a 356, too.

As Ive already said, I do not know too much about it...

Hopefully we will find some proof about its origins here!

Looks like a clumsy attempt to copy the three seater Ferrari 365 P Speciale. Maybe there's a connection to Karosseriebaufachschule Kaiserlautern, again?

Could this be a Porsche 356-based Python?  It looks vaguely similar.

I feel this could be related to Swiss or South-German specials on Porsche 356 Carrera which had been crashed and which were then put together as specials. One was sold as Porsche S75 Special as a used car in 1965 in AutomobilZeitung in Switzerland. I don't want to ruin the game, as so I wont include the ad here, particulary as the car is slightly slightly different. You may know better anyway (in a way this is of course Beetle based..).

(...) sold as Porsche S75 Special as a used car in 1965 in AutomobilZeitung in Switzerland. (...)

The car you're talking about looks different I think.

I still have a strong feeling, but without any proof that this is another product of Karosseriebaufachschule Kaiserslautern.
The slightly amateurish look of the bodywork combined with somewhat ungainly proportions indicates that in my opinion.

Also the building in the background could represent a part of the school building – again I have no proof for that!

Ouch! That would make Kaiserslautern rather unlikely.  :shiner:

I found this car pictured in a 1970 ad by the Chemische Fabrik K.-W.Voss from Uetersen near Hamburg:

That´s the car!

I`ve bought the two old books mentioned in the ad in an antique book shop some weeks ago and here we are!

The thing is, that there´s no real more info in the books, from which I´ve made the scans.

If it was only me I´d give you one point for this find, but I´m quite sure that it is not a "Voss" body, but only one example, how one customer has used their products...

What do the others think? Is this worth a point?

If so that would be worth the point then!
Anything from Uetersen would of course have a Pinneberg registration wouldn't it, so that would confirm Voss as the maker?

I worked with products of VOSS CHEMIE during my design studies. They sold the best polyester stopper available on the market. I guess the car was probably a kind of demonstration model.

Would suggest to give a point to Wendax, but leave it open for some time. Maybe there's still more available who actually built this car.
