Enigma Variations (Racing edition)
« on: September 30, 2013, 04:17:44 PM »
I've been cleaning up my picture files and found some racecars I hardly have any information about. For a racing buff some may be easy to identify, I don't know. To obtain a point you have to prove your guesses. Good luck!

I'm not 100% sure about #6, but I think it could be Paul Bulla's Porsche Special:

 Quite recently I solved a Reichenwallner puzzle myself. Furthermore, we had this one before, too: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=21571

It's getting worse. That was a puzzle of my own: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=18865
Here it appears with cycle wings instead of ordinary fenders, but it looks to me like the same car.

#5 should be the Gottfried Vollmer VW race car in 1950 spec.
It ran at the Solutude and Schauinsland races.

Funny how things go. Your answer is wrong, but led me to the solution.  :)
Vollmer's car looks quite similar, but has a more angular front. However, Vollmer and this car's driver started next to each other at the event where this picture was taken.

#1 looks very much like this, identified in several sources as a 1905 Mercedes 120 PS "Gordon Bennett" racing car.

That looks good. I found this picture described as a Farman, driven by René Cozic, which I thought was utterly wrong.

No. I forgot to mention that grobmotorix was right with the VW part, but not with the builder.

Photo was taken in 1949, but it is not Eugen Krings' car.
