Whatsit? I don't know #557
« on: March 03, 2012, 04:57:16 PM »

Another Whatsit from a familiar source:
Ever seen this ?

If you did, please respond below and, for two points, tell us what is this car and who built it.
As the titles sugests, I have no identification for this car myself.

Not really easy, but it's been done before at Autopuzzles, right?

Did I post this in the wrong section?
Maybe I should have added it to the Nice anonymous cars, and who cares?

Wow - I though a tire was leaning against the rear fender in the first photo. I guess they are actually mounted outboard of the fenders.

Still no idea what it is...

Does anybody know?!
It seems to be a Californian mystery car with an early 1930s Chrysler grille...
More than that I cannot add!

I spent the better part of an hour trying to ID those tail light lenses, hoping it might shed some light, to no avail.

Actually I think I misread the caption, which refers to the car pictured above it and not this one!

Does the steering wheel and instrument panel remind anyone of anything?

Could be a 1950 Studebaker speedometer.

Front fenders look like chopped down '40 Olds parts. The steering wheel could be from the same car.

If you genuinely want an answer to this question, would it not be sensible to post the query on the main Pros' board rather than in this obscure backwater to which only about 10% of forum members can reply.  Many who have not reached the illustrious heights of being classed as "Professional Auto Puzzlers" nonetheless have interests and niche knowledge.
If, on the other hand you are simply posting a topic for pros and feature writers to chew over then it is logical to post it here.
When I raised this question on the forum feedback board, one of the moderators suggested i contact the individual posters.  I did so and received an extremely rude reply from one of them on the lines of "I can post things where I want".  Now I have reached 200 points, I am using the same argument to justify taking the opportunity to reopen the question.

Of course I'd like an answer, as D-type asks.
So I'll follow what you suggest and move this one to the Pro board, at least for awhile.
If nothing comes out of it, I'll consider the Black Hole, or back to this less crowded one.

Looks like the rear view image was lost along the way, so here it is again:
