What's this car, powered by what - for 1 point?
But to solve the puzzle completely I also want to know who the 3 men are and where the photo was taken, which will earn another point:

I'm wondering where in Europe this background could be - and which local authority would allow ghastly home-made fencing and ignore the apparent disregard for building regulations? Look at the roof on the brick building behind the car! Is this non-European-looking backdrop the reason tobytwirl went for 'antipodean', I wonder?   ;D ;D ;D

Actually I meant the car is European; the picture was not taken in Europe!
(I think there are plenty of places in Europe where a few quid in a brown envelope would get anything past the planning department!)

Now I am foxed by the location as well as the car. I can see shades of the costin amigo, and a Saab sportscar, and that front bumper looks like a masterpiece of automotive bling unlike anything I can recognize. But at the end of the day the car looks like a 50's Maserati, say a  200S. Is it? The wheels look like Borranis  I think .................... and Happy New Year.

With that front bumper it is a road car and not a competition car.  So, is it perhaps Vauxhall engined?

It started life as a competition car before later changes and additions; not Vauxhall-engined.
