Built and designed abroad, this design study was built for an American company.

When you say 'another one of the Big Three', do you mean either Ford or Chrysler or another marque within one of the Big Three collection; if the latter, to me this looks like something Buick would have liked around 1956.

How do you get into the car, by the way?

You open the door then breathe in as far as you can before squeezing yourself through the miniscule gap, taking great care not to do yourself a serious injury in your nether regions on the bottom corner of the windscreen..!
I think it was designed by a woman getting her own back on some man who had crossed her...!

Ford - YES, it was a proposal for a Ford

Ghia - YES!

If one of you would have written both those words in one post I would have locked it.

Now it is still open for all.

The windscreen and the doors are one unit that can be flipped up.

So it is time for another hint now:

it ended up as an American custom car in its second life!

Go for it guys!

It's the Ghia Ford Bimini, an estate car designed for city use and built by Ghia in 1956.

Exactly, later it was refurbished and toured around the US as the Barris Bimini Wagon...

Which we already had here:

My goodness, how very practical. Especially in the pouring rain.  ;D  One does wonder what goes on/went on in some of these designers' heads.

According to the book which contains this picture, if it's raining you get in through the rear hatch!!!
