 I think it is the Hughes Special, photographed at a Warwickshire Hillclimb (Mancetter) in 1959.It has a Willment OHV head on its 1172 engine, a bespoke chassis and front suspension from a Wolseley 1500. It still exists.

You're absolutely right - that's exactly what it is. The engine came from a 1956 Ford Popular. It was for sale at Malkin Motorsports recently who didn't specify the name of the car, but the badge attached to the bonnet is stamped clearly "Hughes Special".

A well-earned point.
