On 10 October 2024, a VW Beetle, built in 1958, was loaded onto the museum ship Cap San Diegeo using a on-board crane.
It is moored in Hamburg harbour and next year there will be an exhibition with examples of the cargoes that the ship carried in its active days.

An almost perfect answer, just be a bit more precise on the exact type of VW, preferably with a reasonable year of build. Locked for you.

Well then: VW Type 1, US export (see bumpers).

The year of manufacture makes it a little trickier. The rear window and rear lights speak to the year of construction 1958, as in the NDR media report. The door handles seem to confirm this. It wasn't until 1959 that door handles with pushbuttons were introduced, and there's no sign of them in the picture.

The indicator lights are irritating, according to the B-pillar they were standard at this car, but actually only came in 1960. For the US export perhaps earlier?
No idea!

Btw: In the so-called "NDR Mediathek" there is a black and white film from 1963, showing the loading of a Beetle onto the ‘La Marea’. You can feel a bit sorry for the rocking car...

One more point for you. The car belongs to the Volkswagen Classic factory collection. Since they say it is 1958, it should be right.
