What a messy job!  A backyard customisation?

It's the 1953 Bristol 404 'prototype' which has been fitted with this bizarre rear fin. I can't find any explanation for this, or any period images that suggest the car ever wore such a device in period. The car has been at some major concours events, and for sale with a big dealer, but the fin is never so much as mentioned, let alone explained, whenever the car is seen in public. Personally I think this is a spurious addition but I'm happy to be proved wrong! File under 'needs further investigation'...

Yes !
" 1953 Prototype BRISTOL 404
A truly unique car and the first definitive Bristol 404.
Used as a development car, it later belonged to Sir George Stanley Midelton White, then general manager of Bristol Cars.
1 of the 52 units ever produced and developed in tandem with the Bristol 450 Le Mans cars which were a great success. "

I don’t know any more
1 point for barrett !  :)

It can't be easy, using the fuel filler below the rear window.
