Hiawatha, there is nothing to add to this complete answer except one point and a photo of the complete vehicle. By the way, it was designed by Hans Trippel, an experienced developer of amphibious vehicles, among others in Germany during the Second World War...

Now I've seen  the answer, it looks as if the Amphicar utilised the Herald dashboard

As well as its engine. At least the Amphicar was the fastest boat on the road.  ;D
