This unfortunate machine seems to be some form of customised Mercedes-Benz 170, modified to shoehorn in a larger engine I guess such as an American V8?

OK, found it. This frightful M-B 170 V seems to be the one-off creation of Lutz Müller. It uses an ex-Buick Riviera V8 and seems to be nicknamed 'the Bastard'! Here's another image of this utter horror...

Yes, the Bastard not only uses the Buick V8, but the whole Riviera chassis. Lutz Müller didn't build it, he is just the current owner. He acquired the car from its builder David Strohmeyer.
