You've found it! Quite a well-known car in its day, and later images show it had a different appearance, but this is the car as first built.

However Ladd didn't build the car. LOCKED for gte4289 to finish the puzzle.
It was originally raced by John C. Reuter in 1935, so it seems Reuter may have actually been the builder?

Also, in addition to the "Old Grey Mare," it has also been known as "Old Glory" and more recently as the "1935 Ford Reuter V8 Special."

 I owe you an apology. I have just re-read my source and Lem Ladd assisted John Reuter to build the car. Reuter was the instigator and financier, and Ladd was the mechanic.

A point is duly awarded.
