Fellow Autopuzzlers, for a point please identify this car and the year it was made.

Indeed it is an Abarth, but there is a different denomination printed on the side of the car (which I have obscured in the puzzle image). Locked for you to find it, and the year.

I have been thinking about this puzzle and have reached the conclusion that since the car in the photo is visually undistinguishable from an Abarth 1000 SP, it is fair to give LANCIADELTA356 a point for it. I am now moving it to the Experts to see if anyone can find out what this particular unit is called, for another point. I suppose that it is a one-off equipped with a different engine.

The only other name I've seen for this car is 1000 OT, which is what it was originally named when first shown before it later became th 1000 SP.  But that wouldn't indicate the different engine you mention...

"Fiat Abarth 1000" is the name usually printed on the side of the 1000 SP

Indeed and that's the only name I've ever seen on the side of one.
When the car was first seen at a show in 1966 it was called the 1000 OT Sports Prototype but only ever on that occasion I believe.
Maybe one or two did develop into the OT1600?  Maybe that's what's been seen on the side?

Edit:  I believe at least one was fitted with a 1300 engine - but it was still called a 1000 SP..
Maybe a later owner has decided to call it a 1300 SP but I'm not sure if that was ever a name given to it by Abarth...

Now I've found the picture below!

Is this the puzzle car (the front looks a bit different..)?

Did Abarth really call it that or has it been added by later owners?

It's hard to find images but here's another one (with that different front again..)
The car seems to feature occasionally (or regularly, I'm not sure!) in the Vernasca Silver Flag hill-climb.

The unit in the puzzle picture (which is not the same as the one Carnut's photos) carries the name "Fiat Abarth 1300 ***". I don't really know now if it's an original Abarth denomination or if it's something that has been added later.

Carnut, you earn another point for locating the puzzle car. This unit belongs to the Leo Aumüller Abarth collection housed near Bamberg, Germany. When the car was raced at the 2011 Solitude Revival (that's where the puzzle pic is from), it was presented as a "1968 Fiat Abarth 1300 OT Spider". The other picture that Carnut has found is from the 2009 Retro Classics exhibition in Stuttgart. I don't really know why it has this particular denomination so if anybody knows anything more, info is welcome.
