D-type: what do you mean with "laid over"?
I mean the engine tilted about it's axis to lower its C of G as it was in the Cummins Diesel and the Belond Special at Indianapolis or the Brabham BT55 in F1.

....it seems to have belt-driven cams, fuel injection, and rather long standoffs for the induction;...perhaps for a boat?  Mid 'sixties and German?

Yes, the Black Hole is open to all puzzlers. Usually the reward for solving a Black Hole puzzle is 2 points instead of one.
