Well, where should the trip go?
...and whith which bus?
Manufacturer, type and coachbuilder?
-
Up to the Experts.
-
Magirus?
-
No.
-
Do the vents on the hood imply an air-cooled engine?
-
No, there is no air-cooled engine mounted.
-
Well, let's go through them, then. Opel Blitz?
-
No.
-
Guess I need to back up a step. Is this German?
-
Yes!
-
Could it be Mercedes-Benz?
-
It can and it is a Mercedes-Benz.
Locked for five attempts to name type and coachbuilder.
-
O 3500? Is it a German coachbuilder?
-
O 3500? No.
German coachbuilder? Yes.
-
O 6600?
-
No.
-
O 4500?
-
No.
-
O 311?
-
No, one more attempt.
-
I'm getting close! Found what is probably the source of the picture, and the operator and the city, and a likely year. Still working on coachbuilder and model.
-
Go on
-
OK, well I'm going to have to guess.
O 2600, Kässbohrer, 1939?
-
O 2600: No, stronger.
Kässbohrer: No, this extraordinary hood comes from someone else.
1939: I only have the information: end of the 30s.
There is one more attempt for your trouble.
-
I found a nearly identical bus, supposedly on a Krupp chassis, attributed to "Bauer" from 1936. Presumably Peter Bauer?
Maybe O 3200? You have already ruled out the larger and smaller chassis.
-
Yes, the design was created by Peter Bauer. The year of construction is not required. Unfortunately it is not an O 3200
There is one more attempt for the right body builder.
-
There are Opel Blitz busses by Schumann that have a similar grille, with the diagonal bars and chrome surround. Is it that?
-
Sorry but unlocked.
It's already clear that it's a Mercedes. The Opel Blitz is already out (#7).
-
No, I know it's a Mercedes, I was wondering if the body builder was Schumann.
-
?? Peter Bauer was already clear.
-
Yes, the design was created by Peter Bauer. The year of construction is not required. Unfortunately it is not an O 3200
There is one more attempt for the right body builder.
Sorry, I believe something is lost in translation. Yes, Mercedes, for sure. However, I read the above to mean that the design was created by Peter Bauer, but the body was built by a different coachbuilder. That seemed strange to me, but that's what I've been looking for. So, "Mercedes" and "Peter Bauer" are correct and you are looking for the model designation? How about O 3750?
-
OK, all clarity removed (so we say here).
There is no O 3750 and the O 3200 is also too big.
-
I found several references to O 3750 from 1937. However, are you looking for O 3000?
-
It can be a little more than that.
-
O 3100?
-
Almost. There is still a small detail missing from the type designation. Locked again.
-
LO 3100?
-
Good things come to those who wait. Yes, it's a Mercedes Lo 3100 with bodywork by Peter Bauer, Cologne.
-
The Krupp is a great find, which I couldn't replicate. Cheers ! :applause:
