To test modified headlights? The factory original headlights were following the lines of the front fenders, these headlights are position perpendicular to the vehicle floor.

It's at the point Maico were investigating whether the Champion could be made into a 4-seater. I think this is the initial version of the 4-seater before it was decided it needed a bigger engine and further modification.
