As usual this is proving somewhat elusive so I must be missing a key word. Is it associated with any better known Simca modifiers like Barthe, Deho or Gordini?

No connection that I am aware of. The car was modified because it has an oversize engine, but AFAIK this was done by the owner/driver,

The car raced at the GP de Bressuire 1954 ;  Simca Speciale 1250 drive by Charron !
