So is it a formula 2 type circuit car, or a hillclmb special?
-
So is it a formula 2 type circuit car, or a hillclmb special?
In a way - neither. It was more an initiative by the maker to publicise its products. It was ostensibly entered in an event, but since that race was for sports cars it had me a bit confused. I would suggest it would have been suited to the Formula 2 category.

So is it publicising a component maker?

Not Mazda or Isuzu, because it's a Mitsubishi (or Mushybushy as a friend insists on pronouncing it).
For the point, could you find the year and model designation please. LOCKED.
(PS the caption for this car mispells the model IMHO)

Listed as Coly F20 , could be Colt F20', 1600cc ,possibly built with European F2 in mind , thought I think Japanese GP 1969'may have been run for invited F2 cars
-
What I know is that for 10 years Mitsubishi developed formula cars, starting in 1966 with some Brabham chasses into which 1000cc Mitsubishi engines were inserted. These were the Colt F3As which won that year's exhibition race at the Japanese GP. With further development and 1500cc they became Colt F2As next year, again successfully, and Colt F2Bs with a full race 1500 engine in 1968. Next year came the F2C with fins and spoiler, and in 1970 the F2D. In 1971 the Colt F2000 appears with a 2 litre engine and sidepods and in 1972 Mitsubishi retired from Formula racing, after a great deal of success. What has this to do with the question? I cannot find the photograph but I surmise that the car is an early incantation of the 1969 Colt f2c ………..
-
Sorry Shamrock, but the puzzle was locked for Tobytwirl.
This is indeed a Mitsubishi Colt F20 from 1969, supposedly built to compete in that years's Japanese GP to be driven by Tetsu Ikuzawa, well-known as an F3 driver in British and European races. The problem is, the GP that year was run as a Gp7 sports car race! Possibly there were supporting races, and the car would have qualified for F2 races with its 1600cc production-based motor.
As Shamrock points out, it's captioned as a "Coly", which I suspect is a typo. I reckon it's an F2C.

Are the marks on the photo yours or did you find it like that?

They are the result of my amateur editing of identifying marks such as sponsor decals.
