Well it was in 1996 and this McLaren F1GTR was bought by Mercedes Benz, and fitted with their AMG 6litre engine and a body that looked like a GTR longtail but was in fact shaped to test the aerodynamics of the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. Testing commenced at Jarama where it set some excellent times. It subsequently crashed there, was sold and is now restored to its original specification.
