That's the Lee Oldfield Special. Built for the 1937 Indy 500, the car featured a mid-rear mounted Marmon V16. Being quite a mash-up, the car was never sorted enough to make a qualifying run.
Rear engined - must be an Auto Union ..... I know it isn't. People also look very North American. S I guess another Indy racer, but the rear engine (which appears to be sizable) makes this one interesting.I'll keep an eye on it.
OK. Looked up first rear engined car in the Indy 500 and found something else. Than I found one which tried first, albeit not successful:It's a Marmon V16 Monster.
As mentioned earlier I thought it is a Marmon (Marmon Motor Car Company). The year is .... either 1936 or 1937. I have both dates from different sources.I go with 1936.
