Solved - NEH 5514: Home-built car by John Hartley of Hartlepool

I don't know a huge amount about this car, just who built it, for whom and where he lived; so that's all I need for the point!:

That is a grille from an Austin A30 so was it built in Britain?

This one has been in my 'Requires Further Investigation' folder for the past couple of months because I didn't feel I had enough info to use it as a puzzle car. It's good to see someone else was not as hesitant! :)

Built by Mr. John Hartley of Hartlepool as a birthday gift for Mrs. Hartley (which is all I know).

That's the car, yes.
Well done.

The registration number is a Newcastle upon Tyne issue from 1947, so the car isn't based on an Austin A30.  He must just have liked the grille!  It's possibly based on an Austin Eight or Ten, or maybe even on a Ford 1172cc sidevalve car.

Looks as if it had Ford wheels which may be a clue to the machinery's origin.
Curved windsceen could be Morris Minor I'd say.
