1893

William Still and Frederick B. Featherstonehaugh design and build Canada's first electric vehicle in Toronto.

Still designed the car's battery and motor for Featherstonehaugh, a lawyer and socialite who was also interested in automobiles. Dixon Carriage Works of Toronto was then commissioned to build the 700 lb. (317 kg) two-seater runabout that could reach speeds of 15 mph, approximately 25 km/h.

Just a side note, but I recall being told many years ago (I think in school) that the name "Featherstonehaugh" would be pronounced simply "fan-shaw."   :o

Yes, you're right!  There are quite a few names which are pronounced completely differently from how they appear but this example is possibly the most extreme.  Another is "Cholmondely", which is pronounced "Chumli".  Most odd pronunciations are of places, such as "Beaulieu" which is pronounced "Bewley" or "Belvoir" which is "Beever".
Funny old lanuage English!  It's amazing so many foreigners speak it so well; not so many Brits do!
