The photo came from a Mexican magazine, captioning the Lamborghini as a Costanga (where I discovered the information about the Mexican market model, but possibly using a generic Diablo image, as the model's look identical). I am not accusing anyone, but I am slightly concerned that potentially some Google Image matching might have taken place here to find this precise image, as this is an absolute no no here...

Apparently Lamborghini Costango and Diablo are the same, but Lamborghini changed the name in Mexico because religion matters.
"Mexican version
The Lamborghini Diablo was sold as the Lamborghini Costanga from 1993 through 2000 in Mexico due to controversy against the "Diablo" name, for the Mexican market, the engine was detuned from 492 PS to 440 PS.[8][9] U.S. magazine Motor Week tested the Costanga and found it capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and completing the 1/4-mile in 13.2 seconds at 111 mph.[10]"

No Google Image Matching, I can assure you that.

Interesting. The photo is definitely an original picture shot by the Malaysian car dealer as they use the same building as a background for all the cars they sell. I wonder why the Mexicain magazine took the picture from them as they could have used any press picture for their article...

Sure, but there should be at least one difference : the Diablo logo must have been replaced by a Costanga one or simply removed. Strangely I couldn't find any picture of a Costanga badge. It has to be a very rare beast.

By the way there's a typo in the thread's title, it should be Costanga instead of Costango.

The only way the Costanga was really changed was internally. They detuned it to meet with Mexican standards I believe. I’ve looked quite a bit but I haven’t seen any difference on the exterior between the normal one and the Mexican one. Maybe possibly a badge, but the listing for this car online only provides just one photo.

I’m also really curious how a Costanga version Diablo would end up in Malaysia. I’m not quite sure if the normal Diablo was given to Malaysian dealers throughout the 90’s but I know for sure that the Costanga version was not originally sold there because the name ‘Diablo’ wouldnt’ve been such a problem.

Either way, I believe that this is just an original Diablo that a Mexican Magazine ripped and used as an example for a Lamborghini Costanga. I understand where the makers of this magazine are coming from, since there are little to no photos of a genuine Costanga online, and no photos of a Costanga badge either. (I know that the Costangas were still built in Italy and maybe Lamborghini just found it easier to not stick a badge on there and call it a day) It would’ve been easier for the publishers to just find a photo of a Diablo since they’re practically the same. This is still gonna take more digging to find a true answer but I stick to the side that its just a normal Diablo.

Maybe someone can find this Motor Week issue with this Costanga test?
