I saw a similar picture of this exact car in Geogarno's Motoring Camera 1894-1916 - it was an entrant in the 1908 Grand Prix des Voiturettes and is described as 'Menard's La Joyeuse"

According to some sources this car is a Vulpès, #22 at the 1908 Grand Prix de Voiturettes?

If the driver of the Vulpes was Philippe Barriaux, he is not sitting in this car.

He had a very distinctive face.

So I do not think this is a Vulpes.

But I will accept any proof of course...

I have found two different sites that list all the participants of the 1908 Grand Prix and according to them

#22 Vulpès, no name of the driver.
#20 Ménard in La Joyeuse
# 5 Barriaux in Alcyon

Of course there's the French site where the puzzle picture is said to be Ménard in La Joyeuse and we also have Gergano.

I don't know who is wrong. We had the 1907 Vulpès (with Barriaux) before and it doesn't look like this 1908 puzzle car at all: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=19374

I do not know any Vulpes that has a sleek front end like that of my puzzle car - that is my problem...

A La Joyeuse, driven by P. Ménard 6th. July, 1908 at the Coupe des Voiturettes, Dieppe. Race number: 22. This was a Parisienne make founded in 1907, but seems not to have survived beyond 1908. So far, I have not found any more activity by M. Ménard, so perhaps he was the constructor/designer.

Awkward. I've seen this photo captioned as a Le Gui, or a Vulpès. My feeling is that the Gallica (Agence Rol) source may be correct in calling it a La Joyeuse, but I have not seen any other picture of that marque to match it with.

You are right that the car is a La Joyeuse. I just want the company's name XXXXX, because my 1908 source calls it a XXXXX and in one of my books the manufacturer is listed as "XXXXX (XXXXX-la-Joyeuse)". Still locked for you.

I have it as "Voitures Légères Taine". This make was also raced a little later in the season, by Thomas Schweitzer. Perhaps he was the riding mechanic pictured here?
