I do not have detailed information about this. I guess it was more an art project. I know the creator and the name of thisvehicle.

Were the car and creator americans?

grobmotorix

Yes.

And the artist was born in Minnesota, just to help a bit...

The basis car of course, the photo has been taken in 1972.

Is the artist famous like Duane Hanson?

grobmotorix

I don´t think so.
However you will find him at Wikipedia and he has his own website.

Tom Sewell's "Picklemobile"

QuoteSewell attracted attention immediately; driving into the neighborhood behind the wheel of a car he had dubbed the Picklemobile. The 1949 Studebaker's exterior had been coated with thick, bumpy, uneven layers of sprayed on polyurethane foam and then given a $29.95 Earl Scheib sea green paint job, transforming Raymond Loewy's classic bullet nose design into something that at least faintly resembled a long pickle on wheels.

Bam!

Very good - that´s two points!
