Thanks for this puzzle of a very obscure brand . When did the SKD production start and in which city?
Could you also download a 3/4 front picture of this car; I can only find pictures of the SAIPA Tiba.

Thanks

(25 May 2016) LEAD IN:

An Iraqi state-owned car manufacturer has signed a multi-billion dinar deal with one of the industry's biggest players.

SCAI will produce saloon cars for South Korean company Hyundai.

STORY-LINE:

The production line is busy at this factory in Iskandariyah.

Car after car is moved between technicians as they work on their own specialised areas of the "Tiba" model.

The cars' bodies and chassis are manufactured in Iran before being brought to Iraq for completion.

From fitting the interiors to attaching bumpers to screwing in the engine, there's a lot to do before these vehicles hit the road.

They are being manufactured by the State Company for Automotive Industry (SCAI), which is owned by the Ministry of Industry and Minerals.

These yellow cars are destined to become taxis, seen all over Iraq.

But the company has now signed a lucrative deal to make vehicles for an overseas automotive giant.

SCAI has a contract to build saloon cars for South Korea's Hyundai.

The agreement is worth 44 billion Iraqi dinars (36 million US Dollars),and workers will build 2,000 vehicles a year.

Adnan Ahmed al-Sharifi, Director General of the State Auto Company, says its success with other overseas companies has made this new deal possible.

''We signed contracts with Iranian and Chinese companies to manufacture and assemble cars. And then we signed a contract with the Korean companies of Kia and Hyundai after they saw the activity of our company,'' he explains.

SCAI currently has four production lines.

The new manufacturing line for Hyundai will be ready in three years.

But the yellow Tiba is currently one of its most important products.

At a dealership in Baghdad, a salesman shows the vehicle to a potential customer.

They retail for between 7,500 and 9,500 US dollars.

The dealership's manager Mohammed Osama says the Tiba is popular because it is "very economical with fuel and it works properly in hot weather".

In the capital's centre, Tiba taxis are a common sight.

Akrim Zaid drives the vehicle.

He bought it for its impressive fuel consumption.

"Many customers like to buy this kind of car which are spread all over the country''.

SCAI was established in 1976 and its Iskandariyah factory is based in 50 kilometres (31 miles) south of Baghdad.
