Djetset 893
« on: June 11, 2018, 05:05:11 PM »
For a point, please name the designer of this creation, plus the car underneath that this body has been designed for.
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.

Yes, designed for the Jameson Merlin 'beast', so now Locked to you to name the stylist.

I read somewhere that a British motor magazine (Motor? Autocar?) started a design competition for the Jameson six-wheeler. I guess the picture stems from there, but I wasn't able to find a name. So you may well unlock.

You are absolutely on the right lines Wendax, as this sketch is from a competition run by the British weekly motoring magazine, Motor, in the mid-1970s to cloth the Jamerson Merlin. As you have clearly done your research, I will award you a deserved point and now unlock the puzzle to re-open it to all to name the designer for another point.

Robert Powell?
No.

I was going to say Robert Powell as well but Hiawatha beat me to it.
This is the reason; quote from Robert Powell's website:

"My second project happened by chance. While looking though Motor magazine I came across a story about the late Paul Jameson. He was known at the time for crossing Europe at highly illegal speeds in a 12 cylinder, tank-engined car with a Rolls Royce grille. Even I remember seeing pictures in the Daily Mirror. All rubbish of course; although the car existed and drove it never went 190mph. He decided to correct this by building a second car with the fabulous 12 cylinder, 1750 bhp, supercharged Spitfire engine.
The car was finished, drove and there was a design competition to design a suitable body.
I spent some time doing preliminary sketches then worked on the final design. Once finished I delivered by hand the sketch to the Motor Magazine offices I had the luck to win the competition against quite a few known designers of the time. £10.00 was the prize but the intention to build the design was the reason we all entered."

So your puzzle picture can't have been the winning design?  There is a picture of Robert Powell's car on his website and it doesn't look anything like your puzzle photo!

The Puzzle car was not the winning design entry for the Motor magazine competition, if this helps to narrow who drew this car...

Was it by someone who went on to be quite well-known, like Richard Oakes?

He's not a well-known designer like Richard Oakes, but I think (but can't be 100% certain) that he went on to a career as a stylist within the studio of a mainstream manufacture.

BH should not exist at all! Authors should give enough clues and hints to solve each one of them.

What's the fun to post a puzzle that nobody solves and completely abandoned it stinks deep at the bottom of the forum for years!....
