Q779
« on: October 17, 2011, 02:02:28 PM »
Well - this one is a genuine mystery. I took these pictures in a barn in Oxfordshire, UK, circa 1995, but I have no idea what it may be.
So straight to the pros - anyone can answer, and I'd be very grateful for any info.

It begs the question: what were you doing in the barn?  Burgling it?!

Does it have wheels?

Well it looks like a 'one-off' hovercraft to me....

So... It had no wheels so it probably is a hovercraft. Not strictly an Auto puzzle then. But it reminded me of something Barry Stimson might have penned.
What was I doing in the barn? Hunting for hovercraft of course ;)

I'm not sure that it's just a hovercraft.

It's impossible to know what state of completeness it's in, but a hovercraft needs some means of moving forwards - usually a large propeller or two - which this doesn't have. Also you would expect some sort of skirt to hold the air in as much as possible, and a large surface area to maximise the lift.

I wonder if this is some sort of cross between a jet ski and a hovercraft, using the fans for a bit of extra lift, but being driven by a jet arrangement. I haven't been able to find anything that looks like it yet.

It's a pity you didn't flip it over and photograph the underneath...  ;D

I asked if it was at Star Wars because it looks like mockup. Or it's being built, and not it's finished yet. There's holes for the handles, and nothing underneath that moves this vehicle (no engine, no fans, no wheels).

Don't hold your breath waiting for a reply knewit; Quiller hasn't logged on here since 26. April 2017.
We'll have to try to give him a little nudge as there are one or two of his puzzles awaiting replies.  Gary?!
