Benny Rapp was a legend in the world of sprint car racing in the USA. His career spanned six decades, starting in 1946 and he continued racing up until 2002 when he made the decision to retire after rolling a car at the age of 72 (incidentally he walked away from the crash and rebuilt the car).
This particular car – fondly referred to as #14 – was piloted by Benny from 1964 through until 1970 and brought him several state and national wins in the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA). It is a piece of American motorsport history and has been on display at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Museum in Knoxville as well as the Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga Speedway from 2010 and 2012.
Its current owner acquired the car in 2010 and brought it home to Australia after a stint in the USA. It presents in entirely original condition – the paint, chassis and drivetrain - exactly as it was raced by Rapp. Included with the sale are photos from the Rapp family of the car being built, comprehensive documentation and history, as well as a period-correct trailer that was specifically built for this car. It has one (barely identifiable) repair to the fiberglass tail from its one only accident. The accident is even photographed in the comprehensive included docs, including period magazine coverage.
It is now time for custodianship of this very special sprint car to be passed-on to its next owner who will undoubtedly continue to look after the Rapp Sprinter and ensure it remains in just as good condition as it does today. This is a historically-significant car in the world of not only US motorsport but on a global scale and is a reluctant sale.
