"Eastern Bloc", as I understand it, was the USSR and it's satellites.

Agreed. Eastern Bloc countries were the former USSR and its associates in Eastern Europe (DDR, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Albania, Rumania, Bulgaria and Hungary).

Otto Puzzell

Not a Hong Qi or a Hongqi.

I believe this car is from mainland China.

@re

Hong Qi is Chinese for Red Flag - it's the same car :)

Could be a ca. 1958 Prince Skyline or Gloria...

Otto Puzzell

No, it's from China - the "Japan" comment was a clue of a different nature.  8)

Hmmm... If you wait for sun up, you may perhaps orient yourself correctly.

Hi, is that a Beijing\Peking BJ750?
That is the Beijing Buick Special from 1955...

By the way, my first reply was correct...I tought it was a PEACE, former He-PING,former HO-PING active in China from 1958-1960, it was a sedan Plymouth-like powered with a 4-cylinder 55hp engine.
"Peace" is "Heping" in Mandarin and "Hoping" in Cantonese.

It certainly looks similar. I would not be surprised to find they are related.

There are only few last....the Feng-Huang, then Phoenix, (1958-1965) built several cars, one similar to the american Plymouth (again) and one based on a Mercedes Benz 220. During the 1965 the name was changed to Shanghai.

Paul Jaray

The last one is the Dong-Feng, AKA Tung-Feng,AKA East Wind with the CA-71 model that is quite different.

Otto Puzzell

I haven't seen the correct model designation posted yet.

Paul Jaray

But is there the correct maker? (Dong-Feng\Tung-Feng\East Wind or Feng-Huang\Phoenix\Shangai)?

Otto Puzzell

To be honest, I don't know. The scant reference to this car has referred to it by a two-word name, similar to one of the names you posted. Said references do not specify if the name is the maker or the model.

There was also the Progress, built by (or built in) Chung King in 1958
