Title: Veni, Vedi, Vettel?
Post by: DeAutogids on November 15, 2010, 07:00:00 AM
If we would look at the race in Abu Dhabi without the World Chamionship battle (kind of impossible, isn't it?) then it would've been a pretty boring race. One overtaking at the start, a big crash and a pit strategy that didn't work out.

Of course, as this was not the case, it was a bit of nail-biting.

Where most of the pundits put their money on Alonso, as he only had to stay in the race, it seemed, it would not work out like that. The gamble Ferrari made looked to be correct at the time. The times at the front were dropping and new hard compound tyres seemed a safe bet. Ferrari overlooked Rosberg and more importantly Petrov. To put it with a German commentator's words: "He didn't screw up this weekend, quite a remarkable feat"

And so Vettel became the youngest ever and only Germany's second Formula 1 Driver's World Champion. And to think he only lead the Championship standings once. At the end of the last race.

Very good summary. I really expected Alonso to make the podium, and win the championship.

In addition to blowing the title, he scuttled my last chance to make up ground in the F1 Race Manager rankings.

I thought Red Bull should have pitted MW during the safety car. If they had that could have cost them the title with Vettel whether Alonso covered Webber or just kept on racing.

Vettel deserves the championship but was very fortunate in the last race.

Anyway. it wasn't in his own hands after the disastrous Korean Grand Prix.
Yesterday there was a special feature about him on German TV. It appeared he and Red Bull gave away 140 points of unforced errors this season, so after all maybe a lucky Abu Dhabi win, but a definitely well deserved FIA World Champion.

One wink and it makes you wonder if Red Bull used team tactics......

Pertinent part starts at the 4th minute in the first video.
