Murray Walker and Formula One
« on: February 19, 2007, 11:06:54 AM »
I don't know if you used to get his commentary over the other side of the pond, but his cock-ups are legendary. Here are a few of his in-the-heat-of-the-moment quotes:-

And here comes damon Hill in the Williams. His car is absolutely unique, except for the car that is behind it.

There are seven winners of the Monaco GP on the starting line, and four of them are Michael Schumacher.

Andrea de CCaesaris - the man who has won more Grand Prix than anyone else without actually winning one.

Except for his car, he is the only man on the track.

With modern technology and fantastic pits to car radio, Picquet now knows he can see Prost in front of him.

The first five places are filled by five different cars.

You can't see Alesi in the Ferrari because he isn't there.

And Berger finishes his flying lap to begin a quick one.

Once again, Damon Hill is modest in defeat.

It's raining and the track is wet.

Either the car is stationary or it's on the move.

This will be the first Williams win since the last time a Williams won.

And there's nothing wrong with the car, except that it is on fire.

And there are flames coming out of the back of  Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool.

There are so many hundreds of them that I've only selected a few. Hope you like 'em.

Sounds like the Yogi Berra of Europe!  Thanks for sharing.   ;D

We have a fellow name of Chris Economaki who is known as The Dean of American Racing Announcers.  One year, prior to the start of the Indy 500, his co-host asked "Why are the drivers weaving around like that?"

To which, Economaki replied, "They are checking their steering to make sure its working right."

Well, you can't really argue with THAT, I suppose...... ::)

At Indianapolis one year, Chris once asked Graham Hill, "...How important is the main straightaway?"

Hill replied, "...It's very important, since it connects two turns."
