A STEAMliner on the salt.

Today (10/02) was tech inspection and pit setup day on the salt flats.  The event is World Finals, the last meet of the year.  Among the other things I found to photograph was something I'd never seen there in the decade that I've been shooting photos there.  It's a steam-powered streamliner or Steam-Liner.

The current record for steam cars under 1000 kilos is 139 and change for the mile and 148 and some for the kilometer.  These were set by the drivers Charles Burnett III and Don Wales in the 'British Steam Car.'

I don't know how the new liner is gonna work out, but it's gonna be interesting to see.  It sure drew a crowd when they fired it up.  I'm falling asleep, so I'm gonna attach a few photos and give ya this address for more info on the car: http://www.steamspeedamerica.com/index.html
