« on: July 20, 2012, 09:56:26 AM »
This is the next in the series of the posts we've been waiting for: the motors are installed!

A pair of fire-breathing hemis have found a home in the liner's chassis. The blowers otta be installed next week. But this seems to be a huge step forward.

There are some other items, too: the finalized wheel fairings and a coupla distinguished visitors to Jim Hume's shop.

Check it out!

Hemis!!!

:D

Huge frilkkin hemis!  510 cubic inches each with a Whipple blower that's almost as big as the motor.  No HP figures have been released from the dyno testing, but I have a feeling it's like the Rolls-Royce statement: "sufficient."

As far as I know, this will be the first time that a Whipple has been used in a crank-driven, 90-degree offset (from vertical) mode.

You can see more of the motors and the dyno test here:
http://www.target550.com/gallery/139_dyno_test/index.html  There are 40 images in that post.

Enjoy,

RtR
ps.  I can't WAIT for the test session.  Hell...I just wanna hear the motors fire up.  'Course I'd like to hear the motor in MY car fire up.  But that's getting closer every day.  See last pic.  That's the new headers installed and the new alternator bracket halfway thru installation.

If I had one, I would.  But as far as I know, the car hasn't been fired up in dual-engine configuration.  One of the motors was dyno tested in Canada (the photos and links I added) but it was very, very severely muffled.  See the link on dyno testing for a photo of the mufflers  But.  I'll ask Freud to shoot some video/audio of a startup as soon as it's possible.  I really don't know when that will be.  The liner will be on display at Speed Week (Aug 11-17) but won't run there.  Testing is scheduled for "later" but I haven't been given a date yet.

Having said all that, as soon as it's possible to get an audio/video file I will.  I'll also see if I can get the same thing for my car when it's at that point.  I use a Canon 7D that shoots video, so I can capture that myself.  While my car won't have the overwhelming "awesomeness" of 2 blown hemis on alky/nitro, it still sounds damned good.  :)
