FIA lies and fabrications
« on: September 26, 2008, 02:21:34 PM »
I know there are loads of threads about the Spa appeal but thought this issue needed highlighting because of its wider implications.

From here:

We have here evidence, read into a tribunal hearing, that the FIA has lied about one of its officer's conduct, apparently for the sole reason of supporting its contention that McLaren's appeal is inadmissible.

This email was even sent after business hours on the working day before the tribunal sat.  Not uncommon practice with anyone with a dodgy case, or the FIA seeking a fax vote, I understand.

Is anyone investigating this?  Seeing who sent the email and on whose orders?  Whether they were misunderstanding the position or, as it appears, making up stories to screw McLaren?

Can someone put this to Max when he goes around calling people idiotic for believing conspiracy theories?  Because to me this looks like copper-bottomed proof that the FIA Is biased against McLaren.  Why else TOTALLY make up an argument to defeat McLaren's appeal with no apparent basis in fact?

Can anyone defend this conduct?  Can anyone really believe that the FIA is running the sport fairly?  Can anyone trust anything the FIA does henceforth?

Maybe though it was a one-off failure by an employee acting without authorization.  ;)

What we have here is a series of events. The fact that the makeup, scope and delineation of authority of the stewards don't seem to match the FIA's own regulations. We have Charlie Whiting (a name that keeps being mired in these things...) telling McLaren, twice , that as far as he is concerned what Hamilton has done is fine. Then Charlie Whiting refers this incident (that he saw no problem with, that he twice told McLaren he saw no problem with) to the stewards. Hamilton is interviewed by the President's representative, who then phones Max, and then the stewards reach a decision to impose a drive through penalty after the event - thinking the whole things nicely sewn up, that no appeal can be made. Then this precedent is brought up and suddenly the FIA might have to face questions over their own procedures....hence we have this supposed 'confession' from Scott, which never occurs.

At the very least Charlie Whiting must be removed from his position - if only for his senility and/or stupidity which makes him incompetent for the job, even if one doesn't believe that he is being blatantly dishonest.

It's getting harder and harder for me to clearly visualize that time in my life when everything wasn't besotted with politics.

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Time dims the sight and clarifies the vision.
