OK. How does this work?  By the time I completed my team, I was 200 million in the hole.  Can I do that? How do you get more money?  And how can a McLaren DRIVER be in a SuperAguri?

Also don't understand the league feature and could not find AutoPuzzles.

Other than that, I did fine...... ::)

You can only spend the allotted amount on your team.  130,000 being the allotted amount.  You get more money when you acquire points.  You acquire points by scoring them, with the team you have, in the races.  The F1 manager site tracks all the points your team acquires.   As you acquire points and money throughout the season, you spend it on your team trying to improve it.

You must sign up for the AutoPuzzles.com league.  You can do that here:

Guys - as you sign up, look for the microscopic icon at the bottom of the page that looks like a piece of paper with a green arrow overlapping it. You need to click that to finalize your joining.

Well, since I already logged in a team, I can't get that screen.  Since 4 or five others here have gotten into the league, I have to believe there is a way from where you are stuck.  I agree their interface is NOT intuitive.  That being said, go back there and look at the whole screen of each page and figure it out.

Awright. Awright. I did it. Though the icon for joining was about the dumbest, most ridiculous botton ever created. But I kept looking at all the others who joined and I just figured I couldn't be THAT stupid (well, ok, there's room for discussion there) and eventually realized that stupid little itty bitty blue square with a teeny tiny bit of green in it MUST be the front door and sure enough, it worked!   :o

Anyway, I'm here and think I will feel even stupider for my team picks, but the budget didn't seem to leave a lot of options if one did not want to be powered by Briggs & Stratton or have some ten year old prodigy driving for you.      ::)

Maybe by NEXT year I will have figured out the game within the game........

Maybe by NEXT year I will have figured out the game within the game........

My thinking was to go for exceptional in one of the four categories, and scrape the bottom of the barrel for the other three to get under budget.

My REASONING is that the goal is to get points as soon as possible, so you can upgrade the team early and often. And since the F1 point system rewards excellence, not consistent mediocrity, it's better to blow your wad on one category and hope for a single podium spot, rather than 11th place finishes across the board.

Of course, my so-called ringer is Kovalainen, so we'll see how that works out. The fate of the Flying Burrow Owls hangs in the balance.  ;D

It works as well.  Primarily for the first race, because starting good is essential.  And for the last races, because at that point you should have enough money to actually predict who you think will finsh where.

Last  year F- and I had a hell of a battle.  Bugger beat me by 4 points.  Two years ago, I finished in the top 50 out of 6000.

This year....  I suspect, I'm rebuildng.   :lmao:

!!!A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

The flying burrow owls would like to remind their competitors that due to continuing unrest in Malaysia, The F1 qualifying normally scheduled for this weekend has been rescheduled for next Tuesday.

So no point checking/altering your roster until then.

Just sit tight, have a good weekend, and check back in middle of next week.

Don't believe reports indicating that the race will proceed as scheduled. That's propaganda from the junta that recently took over the state news outlet.

If you like, why not pass the next few days discussing those diamonds in the rough; those drivers/engines/chassis that might have a breakout race this coming Wednesday, and score some much needed points for a team on a budget. Go ahead, discuss.

I've noticed the only difference between the Flying Burrow Owls and some of the top teams is that they have Lewis Hamilton as their "A" guy whereas I took a flyer on Kovalainen.  Ooops.  And now I don't have enough money to afford any changes.  :-\

And what is it with everybody hiding their team choices? Golly geeze. It's the Ron Dennis In Training society.

I couldn't believe that the F1 Manager game would allow you to get top team driver for the first race.  It's never allowed it in all the years I've been playing.

That said, playing catch up is almost impossible.  You need some serious luck.

Which brings me to this weekend's "upgrade".  Those of you who are in the position to make a big upgrade, know what I mean.  The gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" will grow significanly this weekend.

The upgrade choice is key.  Ultra could jump us both if he makes the right choice.

Friday practice times are up, and I can actually afford to dump Kovalainen for Wurz and possibly "upgrade" a few positions. The money  penalty hit is big, though...so in a rare display of patience the Burrow Owls are holding steady for one more race before shaking things up.

Of course, there's 4+ weeks between Bahrain and Spain for me to second-guess this possibly ill-advised decision. ;D

Also note the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.

Well, I've made my choices....

I opted for a more conservative route.  If one of you gambles and wins, you could overtake me.

FWIW, I almost didn't do anything to upgrade from Hamilton to Kimi or Alonso after the race....

Perhaps that's what I did...    :lmao:

I did not start with Hamilton.  Those people who did banked on a Rookie and made out very well.  This is the best start any Rookie has ever had so I would say they got very lucky.  Season isn't over yet though.

The real question will come down the road when deciding to back Ferrari or McLaren. I'm not even sure which drivers I want to eventually back. It's going to be a wild season.

I don't have enough money to do diddly except choose dregs squeezed from the remainders of the final press of the scrapings from the bottom of the chaff barrel. It ain't looking good lads, but I'll give it the ol' grammar school try and, by showering it with neglect, pray that it goes away.

So let's say you had a little money to upgrade your team before the French Grand Prix.

Let's say....maybe 18.5 million or so.

Not enough for a Ferrari / McLaren chassis or a Alonso / Raikkonen - class driver. Maybe enough for a BMW/Sauber chassis or a Heidfeld- type driver. What's the theory here, hold tight for a race or two and upgrade then? Or go ahead an up now, take the 10% hit, and upgrade again when money is available?

Hypothetically speaking, of course.  ???

For you Monday morning quarterbackers, the overall leader's strategy was:

Driver1 Driver2 Chassis Engine

Hamilton Davidson SA SA  <- start
Hamilton Davidson SA Mercedes <- for Bahrain
Hamilton Heidfeld SA Mercedes <- for Monaco
Hamilton Heidfeld McLaren Mercedes <- for US

Basically a bold bet out of the gate and a major upgrade every other race, rather than incremental upgrades after each race. Live and learn.
:)

Oh, and the bottom 1000 or so consist of people who apparently joined late, dropped out early, have incomplete teams, or backed Honda. :)

Go Burrow Owls!

This has been an interesting and enlightening experience.  I've followed F1 much more closely this year than in the past...and it's been a very eventful season.  Lewis Hamilton HAS to be the greatest talent in F1 since Schumacher.

In a way, it's probably a good thing that he didn't win the World Championship in his first year...how could anyone really top that?

Things seem to be looking up for the Trackdogs this week...I've scored more points in qualifying than I did in the whole weekend at Adelaide...but the total would be equal if they'd adjust the points after the Barrichello debacle.  I understand that this might be hard to accomplish; I always enjoyed getting the results so soon after an event, but something like this was bound to happen, I guess.   So, I'd prefer waiting until the results are official before any updating of the scores.

Has anybody besides me noticed just how much Rubens looks like a dead-ringer for Kelsey Grammer?

On a tangent, I'll be passing through your new neck of the woods next week. If you've had time to scout out any great local restaurants or must-see car-related activities, I'd be much obliged for the heads-up.

As for the multi-week database lockdown, I was more than a little annoyed. I guess you get what you pay for. ::)

I haven't found that "must eat" place yet. If you are going to be here over the weekend they have a car show every Fri & Sat at Old Town in Kissimmee. Every Thursday they have one in St Cloud in the Wal-Mart parking lot next to Sonic.

I think he means the issue at Formula 1 Manager I was carping about. I had changes I wanted to make after the previous race, but the database was locked down for the stretch up until Singapore. If it did open up during that period, it mus have been for about 15 minutes the Thursday night before practice.

The fuel hose incident sealed my fate, regardless.  ^-^

Yeah, I was referring to the F1 Manager issues. I think the database opened an hour or so before it closed again....when I was fast asleep. I can't say I was going to swap in Alonso, but I would have at least liked the option. :)

I dunno. The proprietor took a lot of grief last year for slow updates after races. As many of the fans there have stated, the site is completely free, a labor of love - much like another automotive-themed website we know and love - so I give them their props and a lot of slack.

It would be a shame if they don't get it running again.
Title: Re: F1 Manager

I think the delay is because they don't know how to rank the teams in this crapshoot year.

I think there was an issue last year with some people essentially hacking the game, finding glitches in the database or what have you and cheating their way to better equipment. There was a thread about it on the discussion board. Hopefully they've locked things down a bit tighter. And hopefully the game administration will be a little more timely this time around... I know it's free, but there were a few times last year where I thought the admins had bailed on the whole enterprise and left things on autopilot.

Nah..bad result for me, but I've got an excuse - I firstly thought that the game is supposed to run by another scenario, like the one I have played shortly before: you get your team and then there is a series of virtual races, where the results are almost evntually generated. The n I realised the results will depend on real races, but it was too late, as I have already wasted my whole budget then  :P

Right after the races their server gets real busy and doesn't always work like you would want it to.  Check with it in a while and it will return.

Congrats! You and 320 of your closest friends appear to have the same strategy :)

I'm still slapping my forehead, having realized all to late that for the cost of the engine I upgraded to, I could have had BOTH drivers from the same team, which of course pays out more than twice as much for a given result. I have no idea how I missed that. I'm so used to competitive drivers being outside the reach of starting $$ that I didn't check it in detail. Oops. The Burrow Owls will have to retreat to the burrow for a re-grouping & recrimination session. :)

You should have received the extra cash today. The big catch is that if you'd already made a change, AND you roll back your team to make a different change, the extra cash is gone. I found this out the hard way. At least it wasn't a whole lot of money, and there's still a chance they'll get it fixed before the database locks tomorrow.
