Petrov did a really nice job all weekend. He qualified well. He had a hell of a start. And he drove a controlled, error free race for a well deserved podium finish. He was rumored to be on his way out at Renault at the end of last season, but I'm betting the team is glad to have him around for the beginning of this one.
Kubica's misfortune could be Petrov's lucky break, just as Kubica's absence after his crash at Montreal gave Vettel's career forward momentum. As Michael Schumacher has learned, no matter how good you are, there is always someone just a little bit quicker waiting in the wings.
It will be interesting to see how Petrov performs the rest of the season.
