That short bonnet makes me think that the engine is at the front, and therefore probably front wheel drive. The wheels however are quite large and hard to pin down. Is it anything to do with Trabant or something else from eastern Europe?
-
as for the engine: nothing to do with Trabant or any other car from the CEE region
-
Pity I was going for Aero Minor next. Was the car made in West Germany - it appears to be left hand drive.

I cannot place those wheels, but typically that sort of perforated wheel was found on British cars. Is there a British connection with the engine or drivetrain?

It was called "Alfa Romeo Sportwagen" at a 1950 German post war fair:
I wanted to place it as a mystery puzzle the next days...

I am really interested in this...
It does not look too elegant in my eyes - especially the front grille bars look quite clumbsy.
So I guess it might have been exeuted and designed by a German company based upon a pre-war racing or sports car chassis.
Has it been built by a coachbuilding company or was it built by one individual person?
-
person

:P
I really hope this will be solved...

It was called "Alfa Romeo Sportwagen" at a 1950 German post war fair:
I realize this is a post-war photo, but the man in the leather trench coat looks like a villain from an Indiana Jones film.
-
Was this one also the work of Karl Heinz Vagt?
-
no
-
The car is a German Eigenbau by Fritz Weinhold from Hamburg based on an Alfa Romeo Spezial Roadster with a 2.5 L Alfa Marino engine from 1949 The chassis was from a Mercedes 170V. Germam ace Georg Meier did some demonstration laps during the 1949 Hamburger Stadtpark Rennen.
