This is not that hard, now. In a kit-car magazine there was this ad, with this proposal. It has a name not impossible to discover.
Hmm, this is a frustrating one as I know the ad and the magazine it appeared in (only one I think), but I don't now have that magazine, and trying to find another copy is proving harder than I imagined. If and when I do find a copy of the right magazine, I will answer which planned Excalibur this was intended to be (but never actually built)  ;)

Ah Ha, I might be very tempted, as I have lost some of mine due to a structural problem at home (which i will save the explanation for another day..!). I will PM you at some point soon about these.

Might as well open up this old puzzle to all AutoPuzzlers, but the Masters couldn't get it before so it looks like it's headed for the Black Hole soon...

This proposal was from Excalibur cars. They made the Crusader. Two words for this model. B_____ K_____. ;)

That would have been my guess, too. You beat me by a few seconds. I'll try Boris Karloff then.  >:D

Black Knight?

...and that's the name!
"The Excalibur Black Knight, shortly to be intorduced. Based on Ford Granada/Rover SD1"
There was another planned model too, the Golden Hawk.
Well done...I can put this one to rest. ;)

There was just a singke ad, on Kit Cars & Specials, June 1986.
One point for Djetset (who found out name and was just about to find the magazine...) and one for Oguerrerob, as fast as ever ;)

Thank you for the point PJ.

I remember this Black Knight sketch appeared as part of an advert for Excalibur in the mid-1980s Kit Car & Specials magazine, published by Link House (a copy of which I've been trying to find for years!), but the car was never actually made.

There was just a single ad, on Kit Cars & Specials, June 1986.
I'd come close to purchasing the magazine on eBay several times just to solve this puzzle, but changed my mind each time knowing it would probably contain nothing else of interest to me. :)

Glad to see another BH puzzle fall!
