We have a winner! I got confused by the dates because Rex introduced a cyclecar in 1913 but that had a water-cooled engine and an underslung chassis, so this must have been an earlier model.

Another point is awarded.

Yes that was my problem too - a friend had the remains of a Rex motorcycle and in the research we found the post-1913 car but nothing earlier so I wouldn't have thought of Rex in connection with this.
