No, earlier, as in the early 1950s (although I don't know a precise year). 

If it helps (which I figure it might), this car first ran as a modified, and was then converted to a Formula Junior!

That had me confused! FJ was introduced in 1958, and I think the first race in the States was at Sebring in 1959, although I could be wrong.

A certain P L Forsyth ran a Balilla as late as 1954 which presumably would have been modernised at some point. Any connection?
