I also read Motor Sport for some time. I think I have seen the car before. What I have in mind is probably an Aston from the Atom era...

Barrett still doesn't seem to visit his own puzzles. I haven't answered all the questions but I reckon this should go into the BH waiting for someone to name the builder (probably never to be solved).

Could another Editor deal with this? I can't, for obvious reasons.
