When a 4's too many and a Twin Just Ain't Enough...
« on: October 27, 2007, 06:23:00 AM »
Back when I was into bikes (before one tried to kill me), I aspired to acquire a Triumph Bonneville, which I considered the nicest looking bike on the road, even if it was technologically off the pace set by the Japanese bikes of time.

After a long lurid slide on my back through traffic after laying down my puny Honda, Triumphs (and all other biles)  fell completely of my radar screen. But while cruising the web for automotive tidbits, I came across a press release for this brand-new 3-cylinder Triumph Rocket III Touring. Triumph? Are they still around? If I were to moxie up the guts and the $$$ to climb onto a motorbike again, this baby would be on my short list.

Just gorgeous, to my eyes.

Bikes have always scared the crap out of me. My appreciation for such things is thereby limited to the aesthetic, and to the emotions they inspire in my favorite artists. The Triumph Bonneville was mentioned by name in Jethro Tull's "Too Old To Rock N Roll: To Young To Die" so it's more than alright by me.

Keeping with the theme I've now drifted to, the one bike I might own before I die is this beaut:

A Vincent Black Lightning, which is the subject (and title) of a wonderful song by Richard Thompson.

I hope to have enough money someday to get a different bike than my Honda Shadow.

I'm not really a bike person as such but I love those Triumphs (old and new). I would have really liked the motor for my Seven build but they just aren't written off with the same regularity as the Japanese crotch rockets and thus priced too high.
