Ray B.
« on: December 11, 2017, 08:56:36 AM »
Today I checked some of the old member profiles and came across Ray B.'s
I noticed that his last post dates from 6th of September 2016.
I googled his name which was Thierry "Ted" Benoit and was shocked to read the very sad news that he had passed away already on September 30th 2016, just a few weeks after his last post here. He was only 69 years old.

Some of the old members know that Ray B. was a very popular French comic artist:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Benoit
http://www.tcj.com/he-walked-the-line-thierry-ted-benoit-1947-2016/

I remember him as one of the "always around" puzzlers (amongst Otto Puzzell, Quiller, Paul Jaray, Djetset, @re, SeaLion, Allan L etc. etc.) when I first registered here in 2008.
I got really sad and melancholy about thinking of him and the "good old days".

Ray had esp. a soft spot for the US American cars of the 40s, 50s, 60s and was a big enthusiast on design and style of that era. He liked the rather awkward vehicles, too. We had our little controversies here and there, but always liked his straightforwardness and his passion for what he loved.

Will surely miss him!!

Very very sad news indeed - and at such a young age.
He was a stalwart here and will always be remembered for his humour and knowledge.
RIP Ray B.

I googled his name which was Thierry "Ted" Benoit

Just out of curiosity, how do you know his real name as it wasn't mentioned on his profile ?

I had no idea Ray B was Ted Benoit. I'm comic-illiterate yet I knew him as he drew cars amazingly well. RIP.

Very sad news. That's two members who've passed away in recent times who contributed greatly to the AP site.

RIP.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

You just sort of learn who people are through PMs and conversations here and there.
We have a number of motoring journalists and writers here but you wouldn't necessarily know that from their username.

Sad news, thanks for informing us Allemano. I didn't know Ted Benoit's work before and I'm very impressed, it's humbling to learn that you are sharing a space with such talented people.
After we learnt about Bill Murray, I started wondering if any other AP members who had stopped participating had actually passed away too. This sadly confirms my suspicions. I hope there are no more, at least for the time being, though I suppose in some cases we will never know.
