Email problems
« on: September 09, 2022, 05:05:31 PM »
This week I happened to try to change the email address on my account, but then found that no AutoPuzzles emails were being sent. Thus, I couldn't receive the activation email needed for the different email address, and I was locked out of my account.

Thankfully, I was able to contact someone by email who could help with this, but I might well have not been able to.

If anything like this happens to anyone in the future, what should they do? The AP website doesn't seem to have any options for contacting anyone without actually being logged in.

That might be my fault.
I got an email from GoDaddy telling me that the email options from AutoPuzzles were about to expire, esp. Webmaster@Autopuzzles.com   which would come to me.
They wanted quite a lot of money to renew them and I wasn't prepared to pay it because I've never ever used that email address and I didn't think anyone else used any AP email addresses either so I didn't renew.  Maybe a consequence of that is that you couldn't activate your change of email address.

If there was some kind of subscription then there would be enough money to pay for things like that but since this is a free site I'm the only one who pays for things like the cost of hosting the website address and for the above emails.  It's getting a bit too expensive for me....

Maybe it's time for a one-off donation from as many members as possible (not a large sum, something nominal) to form a central fund to cover future internet costs and charges. These are difficult times for all nations, but surely our mutual affection for this site is enough for each and every one of us to find a little something.

Am I being naive?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

I did check back with the GoDaddy site after posting my above post but all it wanted was payment for renewing webmaster@autopuzzles.com  and apparently is a charge made by Microsoft 365.

I don't think Microsoft 365 need any more of my money, having already conned me into paying an annual subscription for Microsoft Office, which used to be just a one-off purchase valid for life..

Since I've never either sent or received an email from/for webmaster@autopuzzles.com  I decided not to pay Microsoft even more of my money.  Maybe they's trying to collect all the money in the world bit by bit...!

It's got nothing to do with that. Best option still is to contact me (just as ftg3plus4 did)
