Strange login
« on: September 12, 2010, 05:18:11 PM »
I'm getting a strange thing when I log in.

I follow my bookmark to the Experts page
It opens up at the page with no thumbnails - this is correct as I have my computer set to clear cookies on closedown
Then I log in and I am taken to the picture for the last thread on the page
I then have to hit the backarrow and it takes me back to the Experts page with my user name - as you'd expect when hitting the Back arrow
Then if I hit F5 (Refresh) I get the Experts page with all the thumbnails - iewhatI would expect when logging in

Is there a simple answer at my end?

Have your bookmark take you to the index or login page.  Other than that I really don't know a work around.

Thanks.  The index page works fine.

Since last night I'm also having problems logging in using Safari.

When I log in to the main page there isn't a problem but when I click on Forums/Puzzles/etc. I get a page saying welcome Guest with a request to login with user name and password (these are already filled in).
I can also see on this page that I'm apparently logged in and viewing the site!

If I then click the login I get a page saying my password is incorrect and giving me the option to change it.
I also get two adverts for Amnesty International on this page.

I have tried to re-enter user name and password, reset Safari, etc. with no change.

I switched to Firefox with no problems which I will use in the meantime.

Thought I would draw your attention to the problem as it sounds the similar to the one we had when Danica Patrick popped up on the login page.

Sounds to me like a problem on your end with Safari.  I use Safari with no problems.

If you are having no problems with Safari then it must be at my end.
I might try re-installing it if the problem persists.
Thanks Ultra.

Today I had a whole page multi-language thingy which claimed my computer was infected so it wouldn't let me in unless I answered a few bits of simple arithmetic. It had "autopuzzles" named within it, but I am still suspicious of its provenence as most examples of that sort of thing are bogus and aimed at "harvesting" users for subsequent spamming.
Am I right to be concerned, or is it real and deliberate?

It is real. It is part of the spam filtering I added.

Spammers registering here have dropped from 30 per day to one a week.

That's fine, of course, but it threw me at first.
Strangely is hasn't reappeared since 9 a.m. (here) so whatever it thought was wrong must have gone away - unless the Temporary permission lasts a lot longer than I would expect.
