Yes, I believe it is a right place. Do you know the place (the country) where the photo has been taken? It may be helpful.

It reminds me one of the Crosley-based microcars.

Very hard to say, but it could be this... However I have never seen a rear view period picture of BMC...

I do not have a rear view, but I'm pretty sure it's one of these.

The grille opening is wrong as are the lines at the rear of the front fender.

Hi, I found this in a book, I think something is wrong:

"McFee (USA)
This was a mid-1950s sports car with a fibreglass body, multitubular frame, modified Fiat front suspension and swing axle rear suspension with a transverse leaf spring. McFee offered cars with Crosley, MG, or Offenhauser engines. Few were sold."

There's nothing about McFee (I suspect is McAfee) in any other book.  :-\

Is there anyone with an idea about this McFee from the 50s?

Here's one that I'm just flummoxed on. I'm probably gonna kick myself for not knowing this, but then again, maybe not.

Any ideas?

Any known detail? (nationality for example?)
(BTW, about the McFee?)

Two things:
1, Ernie McAfee was a renowned racer and tuner during the early 1950s. He was the West Coast distributor of SIATA cars. If it was really a McAfee than it may have to do something with him

2, I browsed through the early 1950s issues of Motor Life a couple years ago. I have great pictures (though photocopied) of 1950s American custom cars and kitcars. I will post some as puzzles soon :) But I haven't found anything on a McAfee there

In your opinion, the McFee reported in that book is actually McAfee?

There has also been one more American racing driver - Jack McAfee who, in turn, had a Porsche dealership. There is a whole website dedicated to him in the web. No single word about any kitcars there, though.

porridgehead, your car seems somehow familiar, but maybe because it has traits of several other cars at the same time :) Any info you have would help the identification much.

I have nothing to offer in the way of help, other than it is currently undergoing restoration somewhere around Mesa, Arizona. I was thinking Veritas or EMW but have found nothing. No other photos either. No engine info... nothing. :(

Well, I have never seen any Veritas or EMW cars even distnantly resembling this one, so I would suppose it is none of them, but rather some Italian or French automobile from late thirties (Simca, Fiat or Alfa Romeo based maybe). But at the moment these are nothing more but my ideas.

Regarding McFee/McAfee - it is definitely a McAfee: "The McAfee Crosley-powered sports car is a fina example of beautiful hand craftsmanship. ... Front suspension is modified Fiat 500 and the rear is a swing-axle type utilizing a Halibrand quick-change staddle section..."
It can accomodate Crosley, MG or Offenhauser Midget motor...
It was fiberglass
And I will scan a picture of the car, its chassis and the description this afternoon from a nice booklet: John Bentley: Speed and Sport. By the editors of Auto magazine. Trend Book No 104, published cca 1957
